So Jenna and I took a budget road trip to Denton, TX to see Tilly and the Wall at the Rubber Gloves Recording Studio. We were going to go to Austin over Memorial Day to see Pink Martini, but those plans fell through, so I’m glad we kept to these. We had such a great time (needless to say), listening to two ipods worth of music there and back. We listened to the Books at least twice, but everything else was different the entire time.

Upon entering the bar and getting the requisite first drink (albeit at a beer-only establishment), we found Tilly and said hello. I believe Nick was first to point out that he remembered us from somewhere. Jenna and I simultaniously blushed. Then Kianna noticed our Tilly shirts and said they were “a perfect fit.” Jenna swooned. Jesus wept. It was all good from then on.

Ten Tin Feet opened for Tilly, and they were neat. Tilly was amazing. Nuff said. This concert totally blew the socks off their Little Rock one. The same was true about Of Montreal; when they played here in Little Rock, I wasn’t that impressed, but after hearing them again in Denton, I’m a fan.

The indie scene in Denton is bigger, but strange. Almost everyone there was younger than me, and most of them were posers. In Arkansas, the indie scene is pretty genuine (you can tell by the beat-up cars in the Vinos parking lot). In Denton, all the punk rockers drive nice SUVs. Lame.

All the same, everyone we met was amazing and cool. We exchanged a few myspace names and promised a few friend requests. After the concert we witnessed a little game of jump rope out back. No fights, no excessive drinking. Not like Arkansas at all, really.

Monday’s always start out so bleak, but then always end so nice (like a summer samba). I’m poor—I feel like I’m out of everything; exhausted. The pantry is nearly bare. Maybe I just need a nap, but I can never sleep.

Times like these I just want to get away, but can never afford to. Thankfully Jenna and I are going to see Tilly and the Wall in Denton, TX on Thursday. Road trip! It’ll be a budget trip, but that’ll be even more fun: packed lunches, beer out of a can (eww!), and music music music.

All I really want is comfort and conversation. A month of sharing. I believe that shared songs will be the only thing that gets me through this month. Thank God for the ipod. Everyday feels like Friday, and I’m in love.

I was writing a love letter today, and I thought about what it must be like to be in a long-term relationship that you’re not satisfied with. And then I thought, I really don’t know what that’s like: the pain, the disappointment. I only know vicariously.

Before we broke-up, I could tell that my boyfriend for 2 years wasn’t happy and wanted to move on. Really, it broke me. Only recently have I truely forgiven him [I hope he knows this]. Now, I’m beginning to think that there isn’t a ‘forever’ with one person. No one person to share my entire life with, only a diary that I keep of my torrid affairs.
